Holmes “Little Buds” Outdoor Classroom

Holmes “Little Buds” Outdoor Classroom

This past year, the Darien Public Schools has started a new initiative for school gardens. Each elementary school will have a garden, built and maintained by parent volunteers and used by teachers as an outdoor classroom. Teachers will have access to a garden curriculum and the students will have the opportunity to plant seeds and watch the flowers grow and bloom.
Holmes garden is in the planning stages. The garden, which will be planted in containers, will be located by the kindergarten wing on the blacktop. The area will be fenced in. There will be seating and worktables within the space. The garden will be handicapped-accessible. Construction of the planters will begin in the spring. The garden will be ready for use in the Fall.

If you have any questions about the garden, please contact Marianne Wadleigh.
