Darien Environmental Group – Every Drop Counts

Darien Environmental Group (DEG) is kicking off the New Year with EVERY DROP COUNTS!

Darien Environmental Group has been providing environmental programs to the Darien Elementary schools for the past 30 years. This year we are excited to launch Every Drop Counts, a program to discuss the importance of conserving water; our precious natural resource.

The Every Drop Counts program will launch in January in the cafeteria during lunch. We will continue to help our children recycle and will be talking about Water Conservation Facts that will be posted on the bulletin board. In addition, in March and April we will be having the kids take the water from plastic water bottles that they don’t finish and fill a brightly colored watering can. They will water the plants in our garden rather than throwing the water in the garbage. This campaign will culminate with an all school presentation and a fun water conservation project with Kids Care Club during Earth Week. We will also be sending home cool bookmarks that share tips for mindful water use – keep your eye out for them.

Parents if you want to get involved, please keep a look out for a Parent Survey that will be sent via H2H. We have partnered with a Darien High School student who created an on-line survey for the surrounding community and worked with Town Hall and the towns Sustainability Task Force to educate adults about how much water we actually use. Please take the time to complete the survey with your child so that the Every Drop Counts Campaign can be an even richer experience.

DEG feels so fortunate to live in a community where parents are so engaged and involved. If you have 20 minutes to spare volunteer via Sign-up Genius here (Trash Free Thursday) to help out in the cafeteria with recycling and water conservation tips/facts. We thank you in advance for getting involved.
